Lewer Canada Ltd. (LCL) provides client-focused solutions through a portfolio of employee benefits programs, advising, and Third Party Administration of employee benefit programs for small business owners.
 

We are looking for a group underwriter / analyst to join our growing team in our Laval, Quebec office. We have a great office environment (when not working from home) and offer competitive compensation, with paid time off, excellent benefits and real potential for growth.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the risk selection and pricing of Group Life, Disability, Health, Dental and Critical Illness benefits. This includes renewing our existing business, providing pricing and advice on plan change requests as well as assessing new business opportunities. You will work closely with the Sales and Client Services teams to meet company objectives as well as client needs.

What will you do:

  • Complete quotations, renewals and respond to client requests within service standards.
  • Develop a strong understanding of our products and services, underwriting guidelines, systems and tools, pricing methodologies and the marketplace.
  • Assess risk and determine the price, financial and contractual conditions of Lewer Canada’s offering for each Plan Sponsor.
  • Develop an understanding of the administrative, contractual and legislative Group Benefits environment.
  • Assist in client relationship management and implementation of new sales into client management software programs (CRM).
  • Assist with recommendations for improvements in plan designs and help to identify any areas of risk for the client.
  • Prepare presentations for client renewal and prospect meetings
  • Handle all aspects of a group insurance renewal including analyzing the insurer’s proposed position & negotiating the best result available for each client.

  • Group Benefits technical knowledge
    • Good knowledge of GB products
    • Excellent knowledge on quote process
    • Good knowledge on New business UW
    • Reasonable knowledge on new business pricing
    • Good knowledge on "alternate" designs
    • Excellent knowledge of renewal process and underwriting
    • Good knowledge on cost control
  • GB market
    • Reasonable knowledge on competitors’ products and business practices
    • Reasonable knowledge on advisor requirements
  • Communication
    • Excellent English and French verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to translate complex information into easily understood messages in a persuasive manner
    • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to influence
  • Task related
    • Excellent organizational and priority setting skills
    • Excellent computer software usage skills, Microsoft Office suite specifically Excel and Word.
    • Ability to work independently or as a member of a small team
    • Ability to manage diverse tasks in a timely manner
    • Ability to be analytical and possess strong decision-making skills
    • Good reporting skills

Competencies:

  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders with different priorities
  • Managing competing or fluctuating priorities and deliverables

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree related to accounting, business, finance, computer science, actuarial science or mathematics
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience
  • Experience with Magik-Net renewal platform a strong asset
  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
  • Industry courses taken and/or designations achieved would be an asset (i,e; LOMA or CEBS)
